We may be a little biased, given that it's our neighborhood, but this corner of NYC boasts some of the best dining the city has to offer. From charming cafés with idyllic street corners perfect for sipping coffee, to classic New York dining experiences, the West Village truly has it all—and more.
Cafes
St Jardim - Great for daytime cafe or through to the evening as a wine bar.
Maison Kitsune - While they don't allow laptops, this is still a great spot to sit and people watch right on Hudson St.
Air Mail - This charming shop has a wide selection of art, travel and design books with a cosy garden in the back to enjoy a coffee.
Oslo Coffee - While there's no seating, this is a great spot for a coffee on the go.
Sogno Toscano - Right on Perry St., this cafe is located on a corner with sidewalk seating. We find ourselves here most weekends enjoying some schiacciata with our coffee.
Fellini - Great spot to take away or sit in, next door to Sogno Toscano.
Restaurants
Commerce Inn - A shaker inspired American restaurant that is the coziest place to eat in the West Village.
Waverly Inn - On a picturesque block in the West Village, this historic restaurant is a must visit for the atmosphere (and their chicken pot pie).
Sant Ambroeus - Our go to Italian spot night or day.
I Sodi - Perhaps the best Italian in the city if you can get a reservation. Try going early in the day and attempting a walk in. Their lasagna is a must.
Via Carota - A West Village institution, always delicious and great for people watching.
Malatesta - We love this spot in the summer when they open all their windows to their sidewalk seating. It's very atmospheric and simple in the best way possible.
Malaparte - This is the sister restaurant to Malatesta. It's a little bit smaller, more quant and the perfect hole in the wall Italian spot.
4 Charles Prime Rib - The steakhouse of our dreams. Delicious and iconic.
Don Angie - A great Italian restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere.
Buvette - Lovely in the summer when they have sidewalk seating, this French restaurant is lovely all day long - from brunch, to an afternoon wine bar to a late night drink.
Sushi Nakazawa - The spot for high end, quality omakase.
Hudson Clearwater - Dependable and charming. We love to sit outside in their garden on a summer's afternoon and stay awhile.
Tartine - A neighborhood French bistro serving with a delightful Parisian vibe, particularly with their sidewalk seating in the warmer months. BYOB encouraged.
Bars
Entwine - Charming cocktail bar with cosy seating upstairs or downstairs, as well as a great garden in the summer.
The Garrett - Lively bar/ speakeasy feel, located just upstairs from the Five Guys.
Orient Express - Cosy and quant cocktail bar designed to feel like a train cart. This is one of our go to spots for a great cocktail.
Turks and Frogs - Located just next door to Orient Express, this charming West Village bar is perfect for an after dinner night cap.
Wilfie and Nell - Always lively and buzzing with people. This bar is great for after work drinks or a Saturday afternoon when you're looking for a crowd.
Talea - We love their Cobble Hill location, but the West Village spot deserves a mention as well as they have a very good beer selection and it's always buzzy.
Nats on Bank - Located on the perfect West Village block, we'd suggest this bar for a drink before dinner in the neighborhood when you can sit outside and watch the world go by.
