Our Guide to Venice

The magical streets of Venice are truly enchanting, a feeling as though they are suspended in time. The narrow, winding alleys, canals, and hidden piazzas weave together to create a city like no other. We try to visit Venice every year or so to catch up with our glass masters, but really because it has become our favorite city. Read below for a glimpse of what makes Venice so magical to us.

The Venetian streets make it easy to get lost and wander, with its disorientating alleys that move like a labyrinth, twisting and turning in unexpected directions. Every corner could reveal a hidden cafe, a historic bridge leading you over another canal, a charming wine bar with cicchetti with locals gathering by the water. It's the hidden gems, the neighborhood osterias or bars that call our name in this town.

Venice is a city steeped in art and history, where every building seems to be a work of art itself. The Venetian Gothic style, with its intricate arches and ornate facades, is a highlight, especially in neighborhoods like Cannaregio and Rialto. We typically enjoy staying in one of the two neighborhoods, however Dorsoduro has recently stolen our hearts, with the proximity to the arts university and the more local feel.

While there is an abundance of things to see and discover on the main island of Venice, there are also the nearby islands of Murano and Burano, each with its own charm. Murano is famous for its glass-making tradition, with artisans creating delicate works of art from molten glass (where our glassware is made!) Murano's quiet streets and canals are lined with workshops and galleries, and the light reflecting off the glass adds to the island’s dreamlike atmosphere. Burano, on the other hand, is known for its colorful houses and lace-making tradition. The island’s streets are an explosion of vibrant hues, and it feels like a painter’s palette come to life, adding a playful touch to the otherwise historic city.
